What is "Pickleball"?

The growing sport of “pickleball” is a perfect fit  to Lakewood as part of the city’s Active Plus fitness activities for older adults.

Pickleball mixes the concepts of badminton, ping pong and tennis. It’s played on a relatively small court, so lots of people around the country are finding that it provides fun and physical activity but without the wear-and-tear of other sports.

Where and when to play

Pickleball courts go into action at the Mayfair Park basketball courts.

  • Mornings: 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays
  • Evenings 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays  (resuming March 14)

There’s no cost or obligation to try, and no need to call ahead or pre-register.

Nets are provided and while players are encouraged to bring their own paddles and balls, a limited number of paddles and balls are available for check out.

Lakewood recreation staff will be available at the courts on Wednesday and Friday mornings to show new participants the rules and how to play.
