Project Shepherd volunteers

Lakewood individuals and families facing unemployment, underemployment or other challenges can find support here.

  • Project Shepherd assists with food and utility payment assistance year round.
  • Project Shepherd's seasonal programs provide free backpacks and school supplies in August, and toys for children plus all the fixings for a holiday meal for the family in December.
  • Fair Housing helps provide answers to questions about fair housing laws and landlord/tenant issues.
  • Section 8 assistance is administered by the Los Angeles County Development Authority.
  • The Community Assistance Directory provides a listing of resources in Lakewood. 

 

Mental health care assistance

Care Solace has a 24/7/365 hotline and website that Lakewood community members can contact--for free--to get a list of mental health care professionals in their area who accept their insurance and specialize in the issues they are facing.

Even if you don’t have insurance, Care Solace will get you an appointment with a mental health professional at little or no cost to you.
