Lakewood artists, photographers, graphic designers and creative types in any media (and any age!) are invited to submit a postcard design for the city's 2023 Thank a Servicemember campaign by Aug. 11.

Five designs will be selected from the entries. The winning designs should reflect patriotism and city pride, and can be designed in any creative media.

The chosen designs will be printed and distributed around town this fall. The public will be invited to write their own messages of thanks and holiday wishes to servicemembers overseas on the back of the cards.

The winning artists will be honored at a community event and their names publicized along with their submissions.

About the Thank a Servicemember campaign

Each year since 2014, over 40,000 cards, letters and even hand-drawn pictures offering greetings and well-wishes for U.S. military servicemembers stationed overseas have been collected from Lakewood residents, businesses and community groups through the Thank a Servicemember campaign.

This is the tenth year that the City of Lakewood has organized the effort as a show of appreciation for U.S. servicemembers. Each year, the city designs a special postcard for the effort, and people are welcome to use or create their own cards, letters and drawings, but this year we are inviting residents to use their creativity, patriotism and community pride to submit a design for the postcard.

We will collect the messages of thanks and sends them to servicemembers overseas through the military support group, Operation Gratitude.

The Thank a Servicemember campaign featuring the winning postcard designs officially launches on Sept. 11 and continues through December.
