Council Member Jeff Wood was first elected to the Lakewood City Council in March 2011. He ran unopposed for a second term in March 2015, and was re-elected to a third term in March 2021. He was most recently elected in March 2024 by the voters of the new District 3 of the city. He has served as mayor twice, in 2015-2016 and 2021-2022.
From 1999 to 2011, Jeff was a member of the Lakewood Recreation and Community Services Commission, serving three terms as commission chair.
Professionally, Jeff has extensive career experience in risk management, business continuity, occupational safety and health, and emergency management. Jeff currently works in higher education as a university risk manager.
Jeff is a graduate of Lakewood High School and California State University, Long Beach, where he received a degree in Speech Communication. Jeff and his wife Mary Jane chose Lakewood to buy their first home and to raise their two daughters.
Jeff has been active in regional collaboration and in 2022-2023 he served as president of the California Contract Cities Association representing 80 member cities and nearly 8 million Californians.
Jeff serves as chair of the SELACO Workforce Development Policy Board, is a member of the Gateway Cities Affordable Housing Trust, Alternate Member of the State Historical Building Safety Board and a Los Angeles County Consumer Affairs Advisory Commissioner.
Council Member Wood is a supporter and volunteer with many community-based and nonprofit organizations serving Lakewood residents.
Council Member Wood's current term on the City Council runs through March 2028.
