The Community Safety Commission studies traffic control and related issues. The commission meets on the first Monday of the month.
The Planning and Environment Commission develops policies for land use, zoning and the city's General and Specific Plans.
The Recreation and Community Services Commission studies issues related to Lakewood’s recreational programs and social services.
The goals of the City specified in the General Plan are carried out, in part, through architectural review of all development within the community. The Development Review Board (DRB) help administer this process.
A significant component of Measure L is the Citizens Oversight Committee, consisting of seven residents and business community leaders.
The Lakewood City Council utilizes a standing committee system. Standing Committees are formed to address continuing subject matter and are composed of two members of the city council.
