The Building and Safety division of the Community Development Department provides Plan Check services for new construction projects. Plan Check is the process of reviewing and approving all construction drawings, reports, and specifications to verify compliance with building, zoning, fire, and other applicable codes prior to the issuance of a building permit(s). The Building and Safety division of the Community Development Department provides Plan Check services for most new and remodeled home and commercial construction projects.
Some of the typical projects that require Plan Check are:
- Small residential additions/alterations
- Block walls/fences
- Small-scale residential solar installations
- Commercial tenant improvements
Before submitting your project to Plan Check, you will need to submit your project's plans to the Planning division for approval. Planners are available for in-person consultation at the Community Development counter at City Hall weekdays during normal operating hours or by phone at 562-866-9771, extension 2341. City Hall is closed alternating Fridays.
Once you have Planning approval, you may submit your plans to Plan Check. Please note that certain projects may require approvals from various agencies which may include a separate plan submittal to the Department of Public Works Headquarters in Alhambra. A detailed agency referral sheet will be provided to you once you have submitted your plans to BSOP.
