Help Project Shepherd get kids back to school
Lakewood Project Shepherd is collecting new “Back to School” backpacks and school supplies for low-income families with school-age children in Lakewood through July 30.
If you are able to help, you can drop off donations of new backpacks and school supplies appropriate for all ages:
- Weekdays through July 30 (7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.) at Burns Community Center, 5510 Clark Ave.
- At the Concerts in the Park events on July 22 and July 29 at Del Valle Park. Bring a donation to the Recreation & Community Services booth for a chance to win a Family Pack from Wingstop! One entry per person. Drawing will be held at 7:30 p.m.
If you have school-age children and are a Lakewood resident facing tough economic times, learn how you can register for Project Shepherd's backpack program.
For more information, see the flyer for supplies needed, or call the Burns Community Center at 562-925-7512.
As you help Project Shepherd, consider that Lakewood has some of the nation’s most popular and value-oriented back-to-school retailers…including Costco, Marshalls, Home Goods, Target, Office Max, Dollar Tree, 99¢ Only Stores, Walmart, Kohl’s, JCPenney, Macy’s and Big 5.
Plus, when you shop local, a portion of your sales tax dollar stays right here in Lakewood to pay for parks, roads, law enforcement and all the features that make for a good quality of life here in our community.
