Free fun at Public Safety Expo & LYS Opening Day

Summer fun and safety are the focus of two classic and free Lakewood events on Saturday, June 15 at Mayfair Park.

Lakewood Youth Sports (LYS) kicks off its opening day ceremonies on Saturday, June 15 at 10 a.m. at Mayfair Park’s Lisa Fernandez Field. At 10:30 a.m. the same day, all Lakewood youth can enjoy a range of free activities, including bouncers and a rock-climbing wall.

The annual Lakewood Public Safety Expo runs from 10:30 a.m to 1:30 p.m. on June 15 at Mayfair Park and features:

  • Demonstrations by L.A. County Sheriff's Department and L.A. County Fire Department (please note that demonstrations could change if the units involved are called away for an emergency response).
  • An up close look at the Sheriff’s Department and Fire Department specialized vehicles, and a chance to meet the pilot and see the Robinson-44 Sky Knight helicopter, Lakewood’s “eye in the sky.”
  • Information on how to conduct basic CPR with the Red Cross.
  • Tips to prepare your homes and pets for an emergency.
  • Crime prevention strategies for home and auto security.
  • Neighborhood Watch information and volunteer opportunities in Lakewood’s crime prevention programs.
