'Velma the Mosquito' to visit Halloween Carnival at Mayfair Park

One of the creative tools used to educate the public about how to prevent mosquito breeding and mosquito bites is the larger-than-life character Velma the Mosquito. Velma will visit the Halloween Carnival at Mayfair Park in Lakewood on Wednesday, Oct. 31 between 6 and 8:30 p.m.

Velma, a creation of the Greater L.A. County Vector Control District, will join District staff in showing samples of what mosquitos look like and talking about where they can breed and how the public can protect themselves from mosquito bites.

The public is invited to come to the Halloween Carnival at Mayfair Park for lots of fun, prizes for the best costumes and winners of various games, and to meet Velma!

For information, call City Hall at 562-866-9771, extension 2408. Carnivals will be held on Halloween from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Biscailuz, Bloomfield, Bolivar, Boyar, Del Valle, Mayfair, Palms and San Martin parks. Velma will only be at the Carnival at Mayfair Park.
