The City of Lakewood, along with generous support from sponsors and community partners, hosts the annual community tree lighting event, with "snow flurries" accompanying the dramatic lighting of the 24-foot-tall tree in the Civic Center Plaza.

Each year, thousands of residents and guests enjoy a celebration of the season at Lakewood's tree lighting event, with a visit and photos with Santa, a selection of food trucks, free carnival games, and face painting.

Photo stations are available with colorful backdrops and costumed characters. Carolers provide a festive seasonal assortment of vocal melodies, including a community sing-a-long by the tree.

In 2014, Lakewood capped off the city's year-long 60th Anniversary festivities with the first tree lighting event. The event was significantly expanded in 2015 and continues year after year now.
