Robert Nelson RCS Commissioner

Lakewood resident Robert Nelson has been appointed to serve as a member of the Recreation and Community Services Commission by the Lakewood City Council.

Robert fills the seat made vacant by the recent passing of longtime resident and RCS Commissioner Kirk Real.

“I hope to enhance Lakewood’s reputation as one of the leaders in recreation and community service in our state, and ensure that the public’s expectations are being met,” said Nelson. “Lakewood’s parks and recreation programs provide free sports, after school activities, and family and senior activities. And Lakewood Youth Sports is a great introduction to sports and lifetime fitness. Residents don’t have to travel outside our city to have a good time in a safe environment.”

Robert and his family of four have lived in Lakewood for eight years, and are active in sports and music activities within the community. “My kids love Del Valle Park because of the playground and, of course, the airplane,” said Nelson. “I love the park because it hosts Concerts in the Park and other events. The open area and fields at Del Valle and other city parks are ideal for families to exercise and train.”

In his professional life, Robert works in public safety as a sergeant with a municipality in Orange County.
