Young athletes honored by Hall of Fame

The Lakewood Youth Hall of Fame event held Feb. 27, 2023 at The Centre honored Co-Athletes of the Year Mia Escandon and Fatimah Hall, along with the 2022 Hall of Fame inductee class of more than 60 performers of the year, special achievement honorees and championship teams.
  • Mia is from Saint Joseph High School where she played center midfielder and was the star of the Jesters soccer team. She served as team captain and started every game of the season. She helped lead her team to the CIF Southern Section Division IV championship where they secured the championship title for Saint Joseph. Mia earned First Team All-CIF and was selected as the CIF Division IV Player of the Year. Additional accolades include First Team All-League, Saint Joseph Team MVP and she was selected as the Press Telegram Player of the Year for Soccer.
  • Fatimah played setter for the Lakewood Lancer’s girls volleyball team. As a four-year varsity player and captain of the Lancers, she helped lead her team to a Moore League title with a 12-0 league record, making an appearance in the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs. For her achievements on the court, Fatimah was selected First Team All-CIF and First Team All Moore League. She was selected Co-Player of the Year for Moore League, and named Co-Player of the Year by the Press Telegram.
