Commander Guyovich looks at the Lakewood Station
The Lakewood Sheriff’s Station has been expanded and modernized for the law enforcement needs of the 21st century. Thanks to Supervisor Don Knabe and Sheriff Lee Baca, who secured county funding, and Congresswoman Linda Sánchez, who provided federal funding for technology upgrades, Lakewood’s 1950s-era sheriff’s station was remade for the new century.
The final phases of the project were completed in February 2008.
The expansion project included a state-of-the-art dispatch center, station operations center, a dedicated Emergency Operations Center for disaster and homeland security response, a new vehicle service garage, and remodeled space for the Detective Bureau, Team Lakewood deputies, traffic and narcotics units, and station administration.
The expansion and modernization project put a new twist on contracting. The city served as the construction manager in both phases of the project, having previously managed the project’s design and bidding process.
The project was completed without a new tax, a tax increase, or special assessment. And it was completed on time and under budget. Phase 1 began in February 2006. Phase 2 began in March 2007. Click to read an eMagazine on the Lakewood Sherrif's Station.
