Totally Friday Night returns

Totally Friday Nights are back at the Lakewood Youth Center, beginning on Friday, April 2 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Click for permission slip

Teens can socialize with friends, play air hockey or pool, and compete on the Wii and PlayStation, or just dance. TFN features contests, prizes and a snack bar.

The fun includes a “lights-out” egg hunt on the Youth Center patio. Don’t forget to bring your own flashlight!

Volunteer opportunities for teens

Lakewood has many opportunities for teen volunteers with city park and human service programs, or in community and civic groups. Activities are a way to gain job experience or to help fulfill community service hours needed for school credit.

Neighborhood parks use volunteers to assist recreation leaders with duties such as crafts, sports field preparation, office work, and Special Olympics programs. The award winning "Teens in Lakewood Care" program needs teens to help provide free home maintenance to Lakewood residents who are physically unable to do the work themselves. Among other activites, they participate in the hundreds-strong Volunteer Day events each year.

Lakewood makes a safe place for kids in the After-School Activity ZONE

It’s a little after 2:30 p.m. and a dozen kids – mostly from Gompers, but with a few middle schoolers from Bancroft – rush into the San Martin Park activity room in a happy tumult, asking who’s on staff and what’s to do and can someone help with fractions? Lakewood’s After-School Activity ZONE is back in lively session for another school day afternoon.
