Built in 1971, Lakewood’s Monte Verde Park is a beautiful, 4-acre park located along the West San Gabriel River. In 2001, the park was renovated and a new building was constructed, featuring the S. Mark Taper Foundation Vista Lodge, a 3,000 square-foot reinterpretation of a classic mountain lodge. The Lakewood community celebrated the completion of the final segment of the city’s West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail project on February 3 with a celebratory tour of the mile-long walking and jogging path along the west bank of the river.
Now, as the San Gabriel River passes through Lakewood, it is completely bounded by parks, walking paths, bike trails, and the Lakewood Equestrian Center. Monte Verde Park and the rustic, 3,000-square-foot S. Mark Taper Foundation Vista Lodge anchor the trail.

Rynerson Park is located on Studebaker Rd. just south of Del Amo Blvd. This 40-acre park is adjacent to the San Gabriel River with easy access to the bike trail along the riverbed. Rynerson Park was dedicated in 1990 and provides a nice retreat from urban Southern California. Completed in May 2003, the 17 acres features a 3/4-mile nature trail and numerous trees, shrubs and wildflowers that provide habitats for various songbirds and small mammals.
