Monte Verde Park - S. Mark Taper Foundation Vista Lodge
News Image Built in 1971, Lakewood’s Monte Verde Park is a beautiful, 4-acre park located along the West San Gabriel River. In 2001, the park was renovated and a new building was constructed, featuring the S. Mark Taper Foundation Vista Lodge, a 3,000 square-foot reinterpretation of a classic mountain lodge.  A quarter mile long nature trail loops around the park providing a path through several ecosystems representing elements of native California landscape. Discover the newly expanded West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail
News Image The Lakewood community celebrated the completion of the final segment of the city’s West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail project on February 3 with a celebratory tour of the mile-long walking and jogging path along the west bank of the river.

Now, as the San Gabriel River passes through Lakewood, it is completely bounded by parks, walking paths, bike trails, and the Lakewood Equestrian Center. Monte Verde Park and the rustic, 3,000-square-foot S. Mark Taper Foundation Vista Lodge anchor the trail.

Rynerson Park: 40-acres of open space, bike trail head, walking trails and baseball
News Image Rynerson Park is located on Studebaker Rd. just south of Del Amo Blvd. This 40-acre park is adjacent to the San Gabriel River with easy access to the bike trail along the riverbed. Rynerson Park was dedicated in 1990 and provides a nice retreat from urban Southern California. Formerly named River Park, Rynerson Park was named after Jacqueline Rynerson, former mayor of Lakewood and a leader in the acquisition and development of the park. (See Yahoo Map)

West San Gabriel River Parkway Trail
News Image Located adjacent to Monte Verde Park this open space development offers a much-needed passive natural experience for the enjoyment and enrichment of the community.   Completed in May 2003, the 17 acres features a 3/4-mile nature trail and numerous trees, shrubs and wildflowers that provide habitats for various songbirds and small mammals.  What was once an unsightly piece of land has become a beautiful refuge for the whole community. See Yahoo Map
