Tree on display through Dec. 31

On Friday, Dec. 7, over 6,000 residents and guests gathered for Lakewood's 5th Annual Tree Lighting outside The Centre.

A special photo collection covering the event is online at the community gallery at www.lakewoodcity.org/treephotos.

If you missed the event, you can still enjoy the tree each night through Dec. 31. It is lit with accompanying holiday music from 5 to 10 p.m. in the plaza between City Hall and The Centre at 5000 Clark Avenue. The sleigh and lit tree are available every night after 5 p.m. and are great places to take holiday photos.

"We appreciate the generous support of our sponsors and community partners who helped make this wonderful event so successful," said Mayor Steve Croft.

The city's partners in the Tree Lighting event were:

Principal Sponsor - Lakewood Center
North Pole (gold level) sponsors - Golden State Water Co. and FUNtastic Dental & Orthodontics
Candy Cane (silver level) sponsors - Bellflower Dental Group, TGIS Catering, Water Replenishment District Board President John Allen and Willdan
Community partners – Mimi’s Café, Cassidy's Corner and Lakewood Lions Club
Community group sponsors - Friends of Lakewood Libraries, Pan American Association and Rotary Club of Lakewood

Snow flurries were provided from overhead machines to the delight of children of all ages. An expanded selection of food trucks, face painting, free carnival games and photo stations with colorful backdrops and costumed characters engaged attendees. Dickens carolers provided a festive seasonal assortment of vocal melodies.

The festivities began at 4:30 p.m., to give families more time to enjoy the food trucks, carnival games and to visit with Santa.

Two big highlights of the night: the lighting of the 24-foot-tall tree and an appearance by Santa Claus who listened to children's requests and posed for photos throughout the evening.
