New and upcoming developments at Lakewood online add up to better customer service and an expansion of Lakewood’s commitment to 24/7 access to city hall. The city’s Web site now contains a master telephone directory of service provider numbers that works a little like a service “portal” by giving residents links to many key service features.
The phonebook pages are part of a family of Web and phone services intended to make it even easier for community members to get the help and information they need. They cover both services provided by the city and other agencies serving the city. This family of service features includes online forms, calendars, e-mailed “eZines,” A to Z Service Guide and FAQ.

The online phonebook links visitors to four major groupings of numbers: “Commonly Used Numbers,” city facilities, county-related contacts, and Lakewood area schools.
In addition, there is a link to an explanation of the popular “CityLine” automated phone information system that allows making non-emergency service requests over the phone and lets users get information via a touchtone phone. Callers to 925-HELP can also select a fax-on-demand feature to get forms and documents sent to them. City staff will respond on the next business day.
Upcoming enhancements will help in emergencies
The city council recently approved the use of federal homeland security grant funds to buy a “reverse 911” telephone system that would allow the city to contact residents with emergency notifications and public information. This new system will allow the city to contact residents with public safety and service information via automated telephone calls.
The system includes a “subscription” feature that can be reached via the Web. Residents may specify their preferred means of being contacted--phone, email, fax or combination.
Lakewood Online search tools
Typical city service and information requests involve topics like tree trimming, dog licenses, trash pickup, graffiti removal, street maintenance, bike patrols, used motor oil recycling, water service, and streetlight repair. Residents often ask about youth sports programs, recreation classes, swimming pools, Tot Lot programs, Meals on Wheels, DASH, senior nutrition, Neighborhood Watch, emergency preparedness classes, community planning, and landscaping.
Links from the phone pages take visitors to powerful search tools that can give site browsers information on all of these topics. They cover general services, building/zone codes and the full collection of hundreds of recreation classes offered each season.

Weblink Documents Center
The City of Lakewood uses the Weblink document viewing portal for its Laserfiche document archive. The system currently presents sections of the city's building and zoning code and some historic documents and newsletters.

Use eCatalog as a recreation search engine to find classes, workshops . . .
This system can certainly be used for class sign-ups. But it is also a terrific SEARCH ENGINE. The eCatalog also is VERY searchable making finding available courses easy. Users can even search for classes by park location to find out what classes take place at the facility closest to their homes.
