 | (Originally published 07/2009) Lakewood Center continues to evolve, and reinvent itself. Recent development has included opening a new Costco Wholesale store and the addition of Forever21. The mall now features Paris-based cosmetics retailer Sephora inside of the JCPenny department store. The upscale cosmetics store has found a new home inside stores of its U.S. partner JC Penny and is expanding nationwide. The Lakewood store is one of the first 100 Sephora expansions in the U.S. The Sephora chain includes more than 750 stores in 21 countries. It carries over 250 brands of items that include makeup, skin care, fragrance, bath, hair products, hair tools, and beauty accessories, including Sephora's own private label. |

 | (Originally published 02/2009) The new Costco Wholesale store opened at Lakewood Center in the first quarter of 2009. Lakewood Business Forecast luncheon attendees cheered when they heard the news at their annual annual business forecast luncheon hosted by the Greater Lakewood Chamber of Commerce and the Lakewood Redevelopment Agency.  | The Lakewood Sheriff’s Station has been expanded and modernized for the law enforcement needs of the 21st century. Thanks to Supervisor Don Knabe and Sheriff Lee Baca, who secured county funding, and Congresswoman Linda Sánchez, who provided federal funding for technology upgrades, Lakewood’s 1950s-era sheriff’s station was remade for the new century. Commander Christy Guyovich reviews the expansion project which included a state-of-the-art dispatch center, station operations center, a dedicated Emergency Operations Center for disaster and homeland security response, a new vehicle service garage, and remodeled space for the Detective Bureau, Team Lakewood deputies, traffic and narcotics units, and station administration. |
| Lakewood teachers get a helping hand |
 | CityTV looks at the efforts of the Lakewood Education Foundation who gave a record of $28,000 in cash grants to 72 Lakewood teachers for the 2008-09 school year. The awards are intended to provide supplemental funding benefitting Lakewood students. The grants are used for the purchase of critical classroom supplies and equipment including document cameras, and science tools. The program gives consideration to materials which can be used for multiple years--like books for accelerated reading programs, microscopes, math learning kits and computers. |

Solar system can generate 250 kilowatts of power and run 300-horsepower pumps |
 | Lakewood's largest water reservoir now generates electricity on top of serving the city's water needs--literally. A photovoltaic solar power system covers its 194 foot diameter tank roof in the Arbor Maintenance Yard. The new solar system will provide over 250 kilowatts of electrical energy during daylight hours to power water system pumps. And the solar panels will eliminate the equivalent of 13 million pounds of carbon dioxide from the environment over the system's 30-year life. Click for related information |

Video clips blend historical photography, film and video footage with interviews of Lakewood residents and city officials. The original collection was created as part of the city's fiftieth anniversary celebration. The city turned fifty on Friday, April 16, 2004. |
| Lakewood traditions: Pan Am Fiesta |
 | The Pan American Fiesta – Lakewood’s oldest community event – runs for three-days of celebration at Mayfair Park each May. The Pan American Association and the city sponsor the annual celebration. The fiesta program also includes a special Mother’s Day breakfast, a Lakewood Artist Guild show and a nostalgic display of Pan American Association history at the John Todd Community Center. Many arts and crafts dealers bring their wares to the fiesta each year, along with community organization food booths. Kids get free, hands-on cultural experiences featuring arts and crafts. The 91-64 win earned Artesia the 2007 CIF State Division III title. The CIF tournament was played Friday-Saturday, March 23-24, 2007. This was the Artesia program’s fifth championship overall. |

 | CityTV Channel 31 takes a look at street sweeping and parking in Lakewood with a segment that discusses the need for sweeps and gives a variety customer service tips. Over 2,500 tons of litter were kept from Lakewood's storm drains in 2008. Responding to stormwater pollution mandates from the state's Water Control Board, Lakewood adopted citywide "no parking during street sweeping" regulations in 2007 that were fully implemented in 2008. Reaching out to residents through a comprehensive information campaign eased the transition to the new parking regulations. The result has been a greener Lakewood. CityTV follows that lead with valuable insight into the sweeping process and review of customer service issues. |
