If you already have a feed reading tool, use these RSS buttons to open them into your feed reader or web browser. Set ups vary widely.

To add one of the feeds in your RSS reader:

1.     Right click on the feed that interests you and select Copy Shortcut. This will copy the feed link to your clipboard.

2.     Paste the link into your RSS reader.

Or, copy and paste this link text into your chosen feed reader or use the “add” button in you Google or Yahoo account.

Two RSS feeds automatically serve up the latest headlines from Lakewood Online and the city’s weekly HTML eMagazine directly to your desktop or RSS-enabled phone.

The homepage feed gives updates of frequently added Lakewood Online news stories. eMagazines are published every week and can be seen via RSS or you can subscribe to the illustrated HTML e-mail magazine itself.

What is RSS?

"RSS feeds" act like a personal website checker and typically show headline links and short story summaries from the websites you choose to follow.

Subscriptions are usually free and give you automatic updates as new content is published on these websites.

If you set up an RSS feed from the New York Times Sports section, for example, you would be notified whenever a new article was posted. The notification takes place in whatever RSS reader you choose to use.

Free RSS reader programs can be found at Downloads.com and are built in to some e-mail programs, Google and Yahoo accounts and smart phones.

How do I start using RSS feeds?

RSS feeds in Lakewood CaliforniaTo use an RSS feed you need either an RSS reader program or be using a program or web-based account that has RSS features built in.

  1. Choose an RSS reader. An internet search will return many options. Some readers are web-based, such as Google Reader, My Yahoo! and Bloglines. Web-based readers require no software installation and are accessible from any computer that has Internet access.

Other readers are downloadable applications, such as FeedReader or FeedDemon.

  1. Once you’ve chosen an RSS reader, follow the instructions to download, install, and open the reader.

  2. Decide what type of content you want the RSS reader to monitor. Many websites provide RSS, which can usually be found on those sites as a link. An orange button is often used to display the service’s availability.

Sometimes the RSS feed is automatically added to the RSS reader and updates are sent every time new content is available. Alternatively, you may have to click the RSS link and copy it into your RSS reader.
