Christy Guyovich, a 19-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, has been promoted to the rank of captain by Sheriff Lee Baca and given command of Lakewood Sheriff’s Station. She is the first woman in the post, and the station's eighteenth captain since 1954.
The station provides law enforcement services for more than 260,000 residents in the cities of Artesia, Bellflower, Hawaiian Gardens, Lakewood, and Paramount and in unincorporated county areas.
The station recently completely a two-year, $23-million renovation and expansion, funded by Los Angeles County through Fourth District Supervisor Don Knabe. (www.lakewoodcity.org/lakewoodstation)
Captain Guyovich’s career with the Sheriff’s Department began in 1989, after graduating from the department’s Training Academy. She then worked assignments at the North County Correctional Facility, Lennox Station, and the Narcotics Bureau. |

In 2000, she was promoted to sergeant and served at Lakewood Sheriff’s Station and in the Administrative Services Division as the department’s liaison to the Board of Supervisors.
Following her promotion to lieutenant in 2004, Captain Guyovich was again assigned to the Lakewood station, where she performed the duties of watch commander. She later moved to the department’s Personnel Administration Bureau, where she served as the Operations and Background Investigations Lieutenant, and the Administrative Services Division, where she served as a chief’s aide. Her first day as commander at Lakewood Station was April 6. Captain Guyovich holds an Associate of Science Degree in Business Administration from Antelope Valley College and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Studies from California State University, Long Beach. | | Fender promoted, new position 
Outgoing Commander Dave Fender served as captain of Lakewood Station for six years. He has been promoted to commander of the Sheriff's Correctional Services Division. Captain Fender implemented several community-orientated programs. Most recently, Captain Fender oversaw the station’s renovation. |
