Do I need a business license to operate a business at my house?

Lakewood allows some home occupations in residential areas.  A home occupation is an occupation or a business activity that does not bring customers or clients to your home or cause disruption to the residential character of your neighborhood.

A license is required before a home business can begin operation.  The license can be obtained from the business license office at city hall.

For more information and assistance, call 562-866-9771, extension 2140.

How do I get a business license?

Where can I get a bicycle license?

Bicycle licenses are $3 and provide statewide protection against loss or theft for up to three years.  The licenses are available at Lakewood schools through the city's school safety program.  Lakewood's fire stations also sell licenses from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays.

Licenses also are issued at the Lakewood Sheriff's Community Safety Center inside Lakewood Center Mall (in the Target store wing).  The safety center is open from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. weekdays and from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on weekends.
