I am disabled and need a ride

The city's DASH transit service is free to Lakewood residents 60 years of age or older without their own transportation, and to disabled residents of any age.  Users of the service must meet some eligibility requirements.

DASH is a reservation-only service that travels in and around Lakewood.  For help in becoming a DASH rider, call 562-920-9701.

DASH is supplemented by the Dial-A-Lift special transportation program of Long Beach Transit, through a subsidy provided by the city.  Dial-A-Lift provides senior transportation services in Lakewood, Long Beach, and Signal Hill.

DASH Transit offers free, safe, dependable transportation to destinations in and around Lakewood for residents who are age 60 or older and the disabled (including temporarily disabled) of any age who are without their own means of transportation.

How do I sign up?

Riders must be registered with the DASH system. Participants must provide proof of age or, if disabled, a physicians statement.

Where can I go?

DASH can take riders to any destination within the City of Lakewood including the homes of friends or family members, shopping centers, libraries, medical offices, and human services agencies.  DASH also extends a limited distance outside of Lakewood to reach services not found within the city.  These destinations are only for medical, educational, or human service programs.

Where do I get picked up?

DASH is curb-to-curb service from your home to your destination and back again.

What are the hours?

DASH is on the road Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Reservations can made only for these hours.

How do I make a reservation?

The reservation line is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Reservations may be taken up to seven days before your desired appointment.  There are no same day appointments. Please call 562-920-9701 to make a reservation with DASH.

Call 562-435-0115 for Dial-A-Lift membership information.

I need meals delivered

Meals-on-Wheels delivers a hot, noon meal and a sack dinner to each client. The nutritional meals are important, of course, but daily contact with a caring volunteer is almost as important.  Meals-on-Wheels volunteers range in age from teens to seniors and help with everything from making sandwiches and packaging meals to driving and delivering meals to clients

For more about volunteering or for more information about the Meals-on-Wheels program, call 562-925-8747.
